The Science Behind Water Softeners
Inside every AquaMaster® water softener are thousands of tiny resin beads. These beads are “charged” with softening power, ready to remove the hardness minerals — calcium and magnesium — from your water. As hard water flows through the softener, a process called ion exchange takes place: the hardness minerals trade places with the soft minerals on the resin beads. The result? Clean, soft water for your whole home.
Over time, the resin beads become saturated with calcium and magnesium and need to be refreshed. That’s when regeneration happens. The system automatically flushes the resin beads with a concentrated solution of regenerant, replacing the hardness minerals with soft minerals once again. The unwanted minerals and any trapped debris are sent down the drain, leaving the resin beads fully “recharged” and ready to soften your water.
It’s a simple, automated process — so you enjoy a steady supply of fresh, soft water without any extra work.
